But He’s a Jew!

Are you in a tizzy wondering if Kamala Harris will make the right pick for her VP nomination? You’ve seen the short list: Gretchen Whitmer (no, because we’re just not ready for two women on the ballot), or Andy Beshear (great, but he can’t deliver a state to the Electoral College total), or that senator from AZ, oh yeah, Mark Kelly – well that won’t work because I had to look up his name, and he’s not that great of a public speaker, but still he’s good on the issues, and maybe he could deliver Arizona, so, hmm, maybe) or Josh Shapiro (highly regarded, great speaker, could deliver Pennsylvania which we really, really need)…

BUT He’s a (((Jew)))! Horror! And this year of all years when Israel, the Apartheid state is committing GENOCIDE!

People just don’t have anything bad to say about Shapiro. But he’s a (((Jew))).

[For those not in the know, the ((( ))) started being used a few years ago on Twitter and other online places to designate Jews without having to spell out “but he’s a Jew” each time. It was interesting because some people added it to their Twitter handles voluntarily, while others were “outed” as being Jewish when it was not widely known. All of which was fascinating to me at the time, which was long before the current Israel/Palestine war. Sadly, we are living with the fallout of that ((( ))) campaign today.]

So, the question is, what would the Hamas supporters do if they had to choose between Trump/Vance and Harris/Shapiro? The lack of understanding of the situation Israel finds itself in today is shocking. Israel is not just fighting a bunch of terrorists in Gaza. It is fighting a multi-front assault against various terrorist groups and the army of Hezbollah, all of which are doing Iran’s dirty work. Iran wants Israel wiped off the map. Hamas, the same. Hesbollah, the same, Houthis, the same. Forces in Iraq, the same. And they’re all just waiting for Iran to get nuclear weapons so they can achieve this goal. That’s where Israel is today. Will America’s Hamas supporters ever admit to that?

Some find it easy to accept the charge of genocide thrown at Israel by Hamas supporters. Why are they comfortable saying that out loud? Some are people who say they don’t watch TV news anymore, but push a little and you’ll hear NPR. Yes, they listen to NPR, pretty much all day. And NPR is not a friend of Israel. Which beggars the question: what would super-progressive NPR do with a Harris/Shapiro campaign?

My guess is that they won’t have to struggle with that dilemma. I’m betting on a Harris/Kelly ticket just because Shapiro is a (((Jew))). And, in my humble opinion, that’s a true shame.

Say what you will about Netanyahu, Israel exists, Israel needs to continue to exist, Israelis are capable of using their democratic freedoms to bring their government to heel if that’s what is needed. Palestinians are not free to protest Hamas or to express anything other than agreement with the actions of Hamas. Who knows what they think, but I bet there are many who would love to trade the remaining hostages for peace and ditch Hamas at the same time.

I would love to be free to vote for a Harris/Shapiro ticket. I’ll be thrilled if given that chance. But it won’t happen because he’s a (((Jew))) and Hamas supporters hold too much power in the Democratic Party to allow the best choice for VP to be THE choice for VP.

Prove me wrong. Please.
